ULTRAMEL SCONES
INGREDIENTS
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 cup Ultramel custard
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Additional milk for brushing
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, mix together the Ultramel custard, milk, and vanilla extract.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the custard mixture.
Gently mix the wet and dry ingredients together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
Pat the dough into a circle, about 1 inch thick.
Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out scones from the dough. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk to help them brown.
Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
Once the scones have cooled, you can dust them with powdered sugar, if desired.
Serve the Ultramel scones warm or at room temperature, and enjoy!
These Ultramel scones are a delightful treat, with a subtle custard flavor and a tender crumb. They are perfect for breakfast or an afternoon tea.
